Education and inspiration for a healthier, more sustainable reality for you, your community, and our planet.
Dear reader,
You might know me as Co-Founder of Way of Being — a low-waste shop in Portland built on a simple belief: the small , intentional choices we make add up to meaningful collective impact. I was motivated to start that business to reignite our personal agency and help demonstrate that the power each of us has to create the change we seek in the world — a healthier planet, healthier bodies, healthier communities — and to find easy ways to incorporate them into our lives without adding to our overwhelm.
Way of Being closed its doors this year, but the mission didn't die, not even close. A Way with Alex is that same work, continued — just in a new format.
Alongside the shop, I've spent my career as an educator and ecosystem builder: teaching business at Portland State, serving as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Latino Founders, and generally trying to be a bridge between the people doing good work and the resources, community, and encouragement that help that work last. I'm also an enthusiastic cheerleader for small businesses and creatives, changemakers, and anyone loudly or quietly doing what they can to make things better, on whatever scale they can manage. It all matters. It all helps.
I've got an MBA in Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship and a BA in Screenwriting, and weirdly with the same intention – to help spark change using whatever tools I’m excited about at the time.
I spent years as a writer in my social entrepreneur era. Now it’s time to be a social entrepreneur in my writer era. Both with the same goal in mind: providing you with the tools, education, and inspiration to lead a healthy, intentional lifestyle that works for you and results in a better world for all of us.
This is where that happens. Glad you're here.
